Where MONDAY shampoo comes from
MONDAY Haircare is a New Zealand brand. According to its about page, it was founded by Jaimee Lupton. Her idea was salon-quality shampoo at a fair price, sold in the shops people already visit.
SmartCompany reports that she moved back to New Zealand to build the brand and launched it in March 2020. MONDAY’s own FAQ says the same: early 2020.
The bottles sold in Vietnam are made in China, as printed on the label.
Does MONDAY shampoo contain sulfates
No SLS and no SLES, according to MONDAY’s FAQ. The brand calls those two cleansers drying and harsh for many people, and uses milder ones such as sodium cocoyl isethionate instead.
It also leaves out parabens and preserves with alternatives such as phenoxyethanol. MONDAY says its products are dermatologically tested and approved as cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny programme.
“No SLS” does not mean nothing in the bottle foams. The full ingredient list is printed on every bottle, so you can read it before you buy.
Silicones in MONDAY shampoo, plainly
MONDAY does not claim to be silicone-free. The ingredient lists on the brand’s product pages include dimethicone and dimethiconol, two silicones, in five of the six bottles:
| Range | Shampoo | Conditioner |
|---|---|---|
| Smooth | Contains dimethicone | Contains dimethicone |
| Moisture | Contains dimethicone | Contains dimethicone |
| Volume | No silicone in the ingredient list | Contains dimethicone |
Dimethicone coats each hair with a very thin film. Hair then feels smoother, looks sleeker and combs through more easily. Plenty of people like that, especially with curly or dry hair.
Others avoid silicones because they want light hair or follow a routine that rules them out. If that is you, MONDAY is the wrong brand. Only the Volume shampoo has no silicone in its list, and all three conditioners do. How to read a sulfate-free label is on our page about sulfate-free shampoo for dry hair.
Is MONDAY shampoo good for your hair type
MONDAY sorts its products by hair type, so the right range decides how well it works for you. This is how the brand describes each one, with today’s price (5 November 2026) for the 354 ml bottles.
| Range | Suits (according to MONDAY) | Shampoo 354 ml | Conditioner 354 ml |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moisture | Dry, coarse or coily hair | Moisture shampoo ₫196,000 | Moisture conditioner ₫196,000 |
| Smooth | Curly, wavy or frizzy hair | Smooth shampoo ₫196,000 | Smooth conditioner ₫196,000 |
| Volume | Thin, fine or oily hair | Volume shampoo ₫196,000 | Volume conditioner ₫196,000 |
Moisture has hyaluronic acid to hold moisture, with coconut oil and shea butter to soften. If you are reading reviews of MONDAY Moisture, remember it is made for dry, dull hair. On fine hair that falls flat it can feel heavy.
Smooth has wheat protein and avocado oil, for curls that puff up after an afternoon downpour in Ho Chi Minh City. It is the only range with a 50 ml travel size: shampoo ₫57,000 and conditioner ₫57,000, enough for a few washes.
Volume has hydrolysed collagen and macadamia oil, for fine hair and roots that get greasy fast. Its shampoo is also the one bottle with no silicone in the list.
MONDAY encourages mixing ranges. Greasy roots and dry ends? Wash with Volume, then condition only the ends with Moisture. More on choosing is on our MONDAY conditioner page.
Who should not choose MONDAY
- Anyone with dandruff or a scalp problem. MONDAY makes no anti-dandruff product. The brand also says its products are not formulated especially for sensitive or irritated scalps. If flakes or itching do not clear within a few weeks, see a dermatologist or a pharmacist.
- Anyone who wants a fully silicone-free routine. Five of the six bottles contain dimethicone, as the table above shows.
- Anyone repairing badly damaged hair after bleaching or perming. The three ranges sold in Vietnam are made for dry, curly and fine hair. For chemically treated hair, ask your hairdresser.
How to use it for the right result
- Wet your hair and massage the shampoo into scalp and hair. Give it one to two minutes, then rinse well.
- Apply conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends, away from the scalp. Leave it for one to two minutes and rinse.
- Fine hair or roots that get greasy fast: MONDAY advises conditioner on the ends only.
- The first time you use a 354 ml bottle, turn the pump in the direction of the arrow to open it.
- Store the bottles somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, as the brand recommends.
