Where Rascals comes from
Rascals is a New Zealand brand. According to the brand’s own story, a New Zealand mum of four launched Rascal + Friends in 2016. Her son had eczema-prone skin, and she could not find a diaper that was affordable and still gentle on it.
In May 2024 the brand changed its name from Rascal + Friends to Rascals and said the products stay exactly the same. Its press release from Auckland, dated 14 May 2024, explains that “Rascals” was a nickname parents already used. An old Rascal Friend review is therefore about the same diapers.
The Rascals diapers sold in Vietnam are made in China, as printed on the pack.
What is inside a Rascals diaper
These are the brand’s specifications, not independent measurements.
- A four-layer Hydrolock Core that, according to Rascals, locks liquid into the middle of the diaper.
- A Fast-Dry Layer that, according to Rascals, takes in wee within seconds so the surface dries fast.
- Triple leak guards and a deep pocket at the edges, which Rascals says stop wee and runny poo.
- Tape diapers have a high-back waistband with up to 12 pieces of elastic. Pants have the UltraFlex 360 waistband with at least 15, sides that tear open and a tab to roll up the used pant.
- Materials printed on the pack: pulp, super absorbent polymer (SAP), PE, PP, non-woven fabric, elastic and adhesive.
Are Rascals diapers good overnight
Rascals claims up to 12 hours of leak protection. The pack adds that the real time depends on how much your baby wees. A baby who wees a lot at night may need a change halfway, whatever the brand.
The instructions on the Rascals pack say most leaks come from the wrong size or a loose fit. Before you blame the diaper for a wet bed, check three things:
- Weigh your baby and check the Rascals size chart by weight. Between two sizes, Rascals suggests the smaller one first.
- The back of the waistband sits high enough. Leaks up the back usually mean it sat too low.
- The leg cuffs are pulled outwards, not tucked in.

Rascals for sensitive skin
Sensitive skin is why the brand exists. Rascals states its diapers contain 0% lotions, latex and fragrance, are hypoallergenic and are dermatologically tested. All Rascals products are certified PETA Vegan & Cruelty Free.
No fragrance means one less possible irritant. It does not mean the diaper prevents nappy rash. Dry skin comes from changing on time and patting dry before the fresh diaper goes on. If a red patch has not settled after a few days, take your baby to a doctor.
The independent Mumsnet test
Mumsnet is a UK parenting site. It had a parent use Rascals Premium in sizes 3 and 4 for a few months, day and night. The baby was seven to nine months old. The review was last updated on 19 August 2025.
The headline finding: the nappies “didn’t leak even when worn overnight”. The tester found them well fitting, with a stretchy waistband. Two minuses: they were “slightly bulkier than other nappies” and not biodegradable, which cost them points.
That is one baby, in the UK, with that market’s size numbering. Treat it as one data point, not a verdict for every baby.
The downsides of Rascals
- A bit bulky. Mumsnet found them thicker than other nappies. Under slim-fitting trousers you may notice it.
- Not biodegradable. The materials include PE, PP and SAP. If you want an eco diaper, Rascals is not it.
- No tape diapers in XL in Vietnam. Tape stops at L (10 to 15 kg). Bigger babies move to Rascals diaper pants in XL and up.
- XXXL starts at 17 kg and the pack prints no upper weight. For a big toddler, watch for marks at the waist and thighs as well as the scales.
- A Premium price. As an example, pants size L in a pack of 52 cost ₫10,577 per diaper today (5 November 2026). Every size is on our Rascals price list. Compare that per-diaper figure with what you use now.
Who should choose Rascals, and who should not
Choose Rascals if your baby’s skin reacts to scented diapers, or if your baby sleeps long and leaks towards morning. It also suits a toddler who crawls and stands, when you want pants that tear open at the sides.
Skip Rascals in three cases. You want a biodegradable diaper. You choose purely on the lowest price per diaper, in which case compare the price lists first. Or your child has outgrown XXXL, because Rascals makes nothing bigger.

Try a small pack before you buy a box
The quickest way to know whether Rascals suits your baby is a few nights in them. A convenience pack is enough for that, such as the pants convenience pack size M, 20 pieces. If they work, move to a regular pack or a 3-pack box in the same size.
